Jane Edwards provides historical perspectives on the origin of the Battered Women’s Shelter at the YWCA in Salt Lake.

c.1985 — Photograph of woman and child used to promote YWCA shelter services. The YWCA of Salt Lake City opened the first domestic violence crisis shelter in the state of Utah in 1976 under the leadership of Betty Tatham. Today the YWCA is the oldest and largest provider of crisis shelter, transitional housing and supportive services for victim of family violence in Utah.
